I have been working on this sweater for a very long time and finally I can see the finishing stages. I realized a while back that there was a design flaw and it was very hard for me to take the sweater out (again) and very hard to keep working when I knew it was not going to turn out the way I wanted it to.
After doing much research suggested by my friend Barb (the expert knitter), I have found that it very will might be possible to shape the sweater the way I wanted to and knit on the bands to finish it. The technique is called "steeking" and it was explained to me by an old Norwegian lady that used to visit me when I worked in the department store. she always knit her designs in the round and then cut them, picked up stitched or sewed pieces into place. In my case, I only have a bit that has to be cut, and using a crochet edge to stabilize, I'll be able to pick up stitched right over that and move on to the edging.
I am so excited I really want to sit up all night and get it done. I can feel myself wrapped in my wonky dragon sweater as spring sets in. it's part of reinventing myself, and this is only a small step. I am hoping that I can find half of an hour tomorrow to work on setting the sleeves or beginning to pick up the edge stitches to create what I hope will be somewhat of a shawl collar.
Can you imagine, finishing a January project and it is only March! I am so proud of myself!
